About PLIGA
Established in 1974, pursuant to the New Jersey Property-Liability Insurance Guaranty Association Act,
PLIGA was created to provide a safety net for policyholders, and as a last
recourse, for claimants. The Association handled its first insolvency in May of that year.
Over the years, the Association and Fund have paid over $581 million in claims over the years to policyholders and claimants of 83 insolvent companies.
Today, the Association is managing 66 active insolvencies.
